A Qualitative Analysis of Influencing Factors on Reluctance to Invest in Kermanshah Province

Abstract
Investment is a key component in economic development. Increased investment improves infrastructure, increases welfare facilities, increases employment and strengthens human development, and as a result, has a positive effect on health, education and economic opportunities. In Kermanshah province, despite the many capacities and unique advantages, no significant investment has been made. This research examines the factors affecting the reluctance to invest in Kermanshah province. According to the results of interviews with experts and economic activists and using the method of qualitative analysis and coding, the most important barriers of reluctance to invest were determined which include the lack of proper advertising, inappropriate administrative structures and narrow-mindedness in issuing licenses, low sense of psychological security, not being a resident of Kermanshah, lack of industry progress in line with other provinces, lack of proper follow-up by investors due to being far away from the capital, lack of awareness of the officials regarding the meaning of investment, lack of introduction of a comprehensive plan of investment opportunities, inappropriateness of the culture ruling the society, image of Kermanshah in the international arena, lack of proper support and follow-up by the officials, non-nativeness and lack of sympathy of the officials, the lack of centrality of Kermanshah in terms of geography, the low level of security compared to other provinces due to its border with Iraq, the lack of conditions for competition among investors, previous negative experiences of investors, lack of proper coordination between different departments and lack of easy access to communication channels.
