Abstract

In this project, the performance of growth traits and Lamb survival of Sanjabi and Sanjabi-Romanov mixed lambs were compared from birth to weaning. This research was carried out during the years 2020 to 2022 by synchronizing and inseminating Romanov sperm in some Sanjabi ewes. The desired traits were determined on 108 born lambs (including 66 Sanjabi lambs and 42 Sanjabi-Romanov lambs) until weaning. Data analysis was done using the GLM method of SAS V9.2 software and the statistical comparison of average was done using Duncan's method. The average birth weight of Sanjabi lambs was equal to 3.726 kg and mixed Sanjabi-Romanov lambs was estimated to be equal to 3.567 kg. The average three-month weight of Sanjabi lambs was 23.474 kg and mixed lambs was 21.155 kg. Also, the average daily gain from birth to weaning in pure Sanjabi lambs was 218 grams per day and for mixed lambs was 196 grams per day. In total, the pure Sanjabi lambs performed better than the mixed Sanjabi-Romanev lambs in terms of the above three traits (P < 0.05). Usually, crossbred lambs will perform better due to the use of heterosis in the F1 generation, but in this project, the performance of pure Sanjabi lambs was better than Sanjabi-Romanov hybrids. It is better to make a general opinion about the suitability of the Sanjabi breed or their hybrids, the reproductive traits in the next generations should also be examined, then made a definitive statement.
