Abstract
Storage canals built on the border of agricultural and national lands is a new model for flood control and protection of water and soil resources, which was proposed, designed and implemented in Kermanshah for the first time in the country. In order to evaluate these canals, three basins of Mikhoran, Shishagan and Harsam and 3 canals were selected in each basin. Calculating the dimensions of the canal, the cost of constructing the canal according to the watershed management price list, the proportion between the capacity of the canal and the volume of incoming runoff, the technical and economic comparison of the canals, the correct location of the canals and the design and implementation method were evaluated. The results showed that, the maximum production runoff of the upstream surface of the canals in these basins varies from 0.02 to 3.68 cubic meters per second using the SCS method. The duration of this discharge to fill the volume of the canal has a range of data changes from 6 minutes to 194 minutes, and there is no proportionality between the volume of the upstream flood and the volume of the construction canals, and it leads to the wastage of credits. Therefore, the creation of canals with this state of design and implementation has no economic justification, but with the technical modifications of the structures and the proportionality of the dimensions of the canals with the upstream surface, the effectiveness of the structure in flood control in flood-prone basins is confirmed and recommended
